Even though I felt like sitting around the house reading all Saturday (I'm totally hooked on these Kate Shugak mysteries I found at the library a couple of weeks ago) Lar insisted on getting us all up to the mountain.
Adventure #1:
Trying the peanut butter trail mix candy at Boehm's. "A lot of hikers take it backpacking," they cheerily informed us. "It has lots fruit and things." Peanut butter mixed with sugar mixed with raisins and maybe some nuts? It's totally candy. And, it turns out, pretty yummy.
Adventure #2:
Practicing common denominators. When my daughter didn't seem to understand that comparing fractions depended on the denominator, we made up crazy math problems for denominator practice. What's 1/33 - 1/55, anyone?
Adventure #3:
Sledding near Snoqualmie Pass. We hiked up a while to where the trail flattened out, and Lar built short sled runs coming down the hill to the trail. Somehow this evolved into a game of "everybody throw snowballs at Daddy while he sleds down the hill." We built a shield wall fort and everything. Eventually the rest of us took our chance on the sled run as well. One problem: the sled always seemed to catch and stop as we passed the snow fort, now manned by Daddy. According to the rules, nobody could throw snowballs at a stopped sled--but it did give the offence lots of time to gather ammo.
Adventure #4:
Dinner at Triple XXX, an awesome 50's style hamburger joint with enormous burgers. Also my children's first introduction to "Grease", the movie. Katherine's question: "Why do they dress so they're not modest?"
